BOISE — A 32-year-old Boise man who had been arguing with his roommates sprayed a can of pepper spray inside a home on West Kootenai Street early Tuesday morning, according to police.
According to the Boise Police Department, 32-year-old Derek Thomas Dayley is currently in the Ada County Jail. Dayley is charged with six counts of misdemeanor battery after officers say he sprayed the stinging substance inside the home, affecting six people inside.
It’s not clear if all six were roommates, or possibly visitors in the home.
Police say Dayley had apparently been drinking alcohol throughout the day, woke up sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, and had a verbal argument with several other people.
They say shortly afterward, Dayley left the home and returned with the pepper spray.
The 32-year-old Boise man is also charged with misdemeanor malicious injury to property for breaking a large mirror.
Police arrested Dayley around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday.

KILGORE — Members of the Navarro Junior College basketball team were left with skin burns after being pepper-sprayed Saturday by a Kilgore College police officer in an incident minutes after a game against the Rangers.
The incident occurred in the wake of Kilgore’s 88-78 win over Region XIV-leading Navarro.
Minutes before the pepper- spray incident, several Navarro players had to be restrained by their fans as they tried to re-enter the court area while Kilgore players and fans celebrated at midcourt.
The Navarro players were ushered back into a Masters Gymnasium corridor leading to the opposing locker room when an unidentified male Kilgore College police officer entered the hallway.
“As I stood between my players and him, I’m telling my players to go back in the locker room because he’s telling them they’ve got to be in the locker room,” said Navarro assistant coach Eric Colbert.
“They’re in the hallway. He sprays over my shoulder, sprays my guy in the face and then rushes into the hallway and sprays all the rest of my players. (more…)

Yes they should! Your life may depend on it. With the increase in crime/attacks today, for example the Loyola rapist, the Lincolnshire sledgehammer assault, and the coyote attacks pepper spray and personal alarms are becoming increasingly popular to fight off a would-be assailant.
The reason you should carry a personal alarm and/or pepper spray is if you’re out walking the dog late at night or getting off work late at night you should always be prepared for the unthinkable. If being attacked having a personal alarm will scare off a would-be attacker and draw attention to yourself. If you’re being attacked and have pepper spray, spraying the attacker would disorient the person, burn their eyes, make it difficult for them to breathe, and give you enough time to get away.
Personal alarms come in all different types of sizes some ranger no larger than a golf ball while others can range in size as big as a cell phone. Most have a flashlight built in and a panic button to sound off a piercing alarm. Some also may have a pull tab which activates an alarm when pulled or detached from the main unit.
Pepper sprays normally come in aerosol type containers, some no larger than a tube of lipstick. Some are small enough to attach to a key chain. Some are disguised as a pager or baton. Most of these sprays can be fired several times and have a range between 8 and 20 feet, depending on model and size.
If you have to use your pepper spray in self-defense, make sure that you have some distance between you and your attacker if possible. You don’t want the spray to affect you. Aim the spray at the chest to avoid missing if you aim at the face, then release a 1 to 2 second burst of spray. After spraying the attacker, carefully move away while keeping your eyes on them. If you keep an eye on the attacker you will be able to tell if further sprays are needed. Once the attacker is incapacitated, seek help and call the police. Though it may not seem “cool” to carry pepper spray it’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Instead of the bad guys, it was Seattle’s most prolific self-styled superhero that ended up in handcuffs.
Police officers arrested the 23-year-old man who calls himself Phoenix Jones early Sunday after he was accused of assaulting several people with pepper spray. He was booked in county jail on four counts of assault, with arraignment set for Thursday, police said Monday.
Jones, who wears a black mask with yellow stripes and a bulging muscle bodysuit, said he was only trying to stop a street brawl.
“Just because he’s dressed up in costume, it doesn’t mean he’s in special consideration or above the law. You can’t go around pepper spraying people because you think they are fighting,” said Seattle police spokesman Det. Mark Jamieson. (more…)
